Everybody, Kyle Gillette here. Welcome to the Blue Shirt Leadership Podcast. I'm really excited to get this podcast going again. You know, I have over episodes on a different version of the show, but I'm starting this new and fresh with a little bit of a different angle. And that is that I think in business, there are a lot of guys out there, guys like myself, that either run their business alone, or they have a small team, or maybe they even have a big team, but they're running a team, and they're running a business, and they're married, and they have kids, and they're involved in their church, and they're on a board, and they're coaching a team, and it keeps adding up and up and up.
0:53 - Speaker 1
And we forget that that can create some really heavy burnout if we're not careful. And so on this podcast, I want to talk to those guys. I want to talk to those men that are running their business and they're having a good time and having a good experience, but they're kind of feeling a little bit alone. They're feeling a little bit isolated and like nobody's there to support them. And it's probably because that's true. If you think about your business. And you think about the success that you've had in your business, you may look back and say, yeah, there's been some great help along the way.
1:29 - Speaker 1
There's been some people that have gotten input and some some advice that you got, maybe some coaching that you got that made a difference. But along the way, Have you had that intense accountability? Have you had that support where when crap went not the way you want it to, you had someone to turn to? Now, there are some out there that have that, and that's a beautiful thing. But there's a lot that don't. And those are the guys that are really struggling. And so on today's episode, I want you to understand and recognize that I'm here to share some insights to help men like you, to help business owners of faith that are trying to run their business and trying to do it to honor God.
2:10 - Speaker 1
And they're trying to do it and be successful and raise a family and honor their wife and do a great job with their kids and all those things, but there's so much weight in the midst of all that. So, these episodes are going to be really short. I'm not intending to talk at the mic for a half hour, because that's boring for you. I want you to be able to consume this, maybe while you're checking emails, or maybe while you're driving between jobs, or you're just going to a networking event, or whatever it is.
2:36 - Speaker 1
I want you to be able to take this in quickly, let it sit, learn from it, and then be able to immediately apply it. Now, I'm a very practical guy. If you've never heard me before, I'm Kyle Gillette, creator of the Blue Shirt Leadership Framework and creator of the Blue Shirt community as well. And I'm here because God gave me a picture of what He wants me to create and the impact that He wants me to have. I spent many, many months and many, many hours praying and asking, God, what is the vision that you have for me?
3:06 - Speaker 1
What is the vision? And he just wouldn't deliver. And I don't know why. I don't understand how that works. But eventually on a car ride, a car drive back from a networking event, I was listening to a book by Jim Quick called Limitless, and he starts talking about vision. So I paused the audio, and I said, God, what is this vision you have for me? And I waited. And then he delivered it, and it was wonderful. He said, I want you to help thousands of business owners shift their mindsets and habits so that I, God, could transform their hearts.
3:39 - Speaker 1
And that just hit me heavy. And I ended up crying a bit in the car for basically the rest of the drive home, which is another 5-10 minutes. But it stuck with me, but then I didn't do much with it. You know, I've been trying to make that impact spiritually on the lives of those that I get to coach and the lives of those around me that I get to lead in other contexts. But until recently, I didn't know that really my focus is Christian men that are running their own businesses. And if you are that, and you're listening, thank you for listening.
4:12 - Speaker 1
I think this tip I'm going to give you today will be really impactful for you. If you're not a man who's running a business who's a Christian, that's okay, because this tip will be helpful for you as well. And if you know anybody that fits that criteria, that idea of who I'm speaking to, I would ask you and encourage you to please introduce them to this podcast, because this is going to be very, very valuable free content for them. All right, here's the tip. And then I'm done. So you can go on with your day.
4:43 - Speaker 1
The tip is I was struggling in when COVID hit, I was struggling and I lost of my business at the time. And I remember it was March. It was March. I can't remember the specific day, but I think it was March 17th, actually COVID hit my business. And that's the date that I had. I think four people quit, just quit their coaching with me. I had some contracts with some businesses and they wrapped up. The total value of those contracts was really high and was making it work for my family. And it was really devastating to lose those businesses.
5:16 - Speaker 1
So from that, from March until June, I basically went, woe is me. Woe is me. I suck. I can't make this thing work. And then I heard a podcast or I heard someone make a comment about your mindset and taking control of your actions. And I wish I could give credit where credit is due on that, but I don't remember who it was. But then I went to myself and I said, man, This is, this is up to me. I'm the one that needs to make these decisions and make these pivots and adjust my mindset about this and quit saying, Oh, I'm not going to get the business.
5:48 - Speaker 1
It's not going to work, blah, blah, blah. So in June, I made that decision and I started to reach out to people. I started to reconnect with former clients, even though it was only three months ago, I started to reconnect with them. And ultimately I was able to grow my business back up to where it was. Plus that year I grew over the previous year. And that was amazing. But then things started to, I wouldn't say unravel, but the next year things got challenging. And in this case, my business continued to grow and it became challenging and I needed some help.
6:20 - Speaker 1
And so I sought help out. And this is the tip. Have you ever thought about who the real CEO of your business is? Have you, have you considered that maybe it's not you? Maybe you're not the actual chief executive officer. We'll call him a CHO. He's my chief heavenly officer, and that's God. You might be the chief earthly officer, the CEO, but he's the chief heavenly officer. And I'll tell you what, when you partner with God in your business, it changes everything. So I began partnering with God in my business.
6:58 - Speaker 1
And the way it works is every Monday at 8am, And I have to admit that this Monday it was only minutes. I was distracted, but it was still minutes. But every Monday from to my goal, and I hit it a vast majority of the time, is to sit down and have a meeting with God. Now I do that at my computer. Sometimes I do it by praying. Sometimes I do it by worshiping. But typically I'm sitting at my computer and I'm looking at my screen and I'm answering three questions or I'm thinking about three categories.
7:30 - Speaker 1
And those three categories are What is my request? What are my requests for God of this week? Actually, I said it in the wrong order. The first one is reflect. First I reflect. And I reflect on, okay, what is God trying to teach me? What am I learning? What did I learn from last week? What do I want to learn? What is He teaching me for this week? That's reflect. Reflect on His goodness. Reflect on the impact that He's made. Reflect on the clients that I have and the benefits that I've had from being able to work with them.
8:00 - Speaker 1
Then, I make a request. I make my requests of God. What do I want to see happen this week? And I try to make it real specific. Like, Lord, please bring me three new clients, for example. Or give me an opportunity to speak to certain people, type thing. Or to impact a client in a specific way. So I get really specific. Because when I'm real specific, then I know that God answered. And I know that he didn't answer also, and both those are good things. And then the third R is to rely. This is where it's more of that like appreciation for who God is and relying on him for all the things, everything, and appreciating that about him.
8:39 - Speaker 1
So I want to encourage you and urge you to apply this approach to the beginning of your week, whether it's a.m., a.m., whatever time works. Set it on your Monday for a half hour that you meet with God. And this isn't a devotional time, like a personal devotional time. This is a time that's all about the business, not about the personal life. This is you giving your business. You're having a meeting with the chief heavenly officer of your business. Minutes, start with reflecting, then go to requesting, and then go to relying.
9:12 - Speaker 1
And when you do that, it opens up so much more communication and insight as to what God is doing in your business. So with that, I just want to challenge you and encourage you to try it for the next three weeks and see what happens. See how God works and moves in your life and your business.
